FAQs for Anxiety, Depression, and Grief Therapy in Bridgewater, NJ
What is the Good Life?
The components are different for everyone but it is based on inner feelings of peace, happiness, and contentedness rather than external things such as material possessions, wealth, or prestige.
Do you offer telehealth or in-person sessions?
I use a secure HIPAA compliant platform to offer video therapy. For established clients there may also be the opportunity to meet in person for hikes in public settings.
How long does therapy take?
There are a lot of factors that contribute to the length of therapy, so it is difficult to predict until we begin working together. Typically, clients commit to therapy for 6 months and progress is measured monthly.
How often do we meet?
I have found that meeting weekly improve my clients’ progress toward their goals, especially in the beginning. We will establish a set to time to meet each week and that will be our reoccurring weekly appointment. As my client’s progress on accomplishing their goals we evaluate whether reducing to bi-weekly sessions would be adequate to maintain progress.
Why do we meet weekly?
Doing healing work at the level that will sustain long-term change takes time. It’s a commitment. Clients that invest in the time get better faster and with less relapse into old patterns. It’s particularly important to meet weekly in the beginning while getting to know each other and developing our working relationship.
Do you give homework?
Yes, on a case by case basis. Depending on your specific goals and needs I may suggest things for you do to at home that supports the work we do in our therapy sessions. I have found that clients make significantly faster progress when they do the homework. There are 168 hours in a week, of which only 1 we will spend together. Homework helps to keep you in the change mindset and accelerate progress between sessions.
What can I expect to happen during our time together?
Generally speaking, during the first 1-3 sessions, we will do a thorough history and establish specific goals for your therapy. The next 3-4 sessions, we will develop a tool kit for dealing with the current stressors that brought you to counseling. In the last part of therapy, we will do the deep diving work to help heal the roots of problems that brought you to counseling.
What kind of results can I expect from counseling?
My clients feel less anxious, less depressed, and have an increased sense of peace. They develop more meaning in their life and feel like they finally found what was missing. Their problems do not always go away (e.g. death of a loved one, loss of a job, cancer diagnosis) but they learn healthy ways to process and live with them.
What if I need to cancel our appointment or I get sick?
I have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If you need to cancel, make sure you give me 24 hours notice to avoid paying the late cancellation fee, which is the full session rate. Typically insurance companies do not reimburse you for cancellation fees.
What is your availability?
I see clients Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. We will discuss availability during the initial consultation call.
Rather than worrying about scheduling a different time every single week, I set aside a weekly appointment time that’s protected for you - I won’t schedule anyone else during your time.
Do you take insurance?
I am in-network for Cigna. I also offer a Superbill, which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement using your Out-of-Network benefits.
I am ready to get started. What do I do next?
I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to see if I am the right counselor in Bridgewater, NJ. I look forward to hearing from you!
